F.A.I.R.

Foothills Artist In Residence

What is F.A.I.R.?

The Foothills Artist in Residence is a program organized by the Foothills Arts Council to create opportunities for artists to share their talents. It gives the FAC an outlet for creative exposure while also supporting our area artists. F.A.I.R. will allow us to go into our community with experienced, qualified and willing artists to create workshops, provide demonstrations and lectures, and develop programs worthy of local, state, and private funding. The individuals involved must be willing to work to promote a positive art environ-ment at the Foothills Arts Council and in the surrounding community.

What is an artist in residence?
An artist is residence is an artist based in the facility and actively promotes demonstration, workshops and outreach programs for the community.

How do I apply?
Submit a recent resume or portfolio, and an artist statement about why you would like the opportunity to become an artist in residence.

What are the qualifications?
To qualify for F.A.I.R. you must be actively pursuing your art interest, be able to provide information about yourself and your art, and have a willingness to share your creativity with others.

If accepted, what is expected of me?

We want you to be involved in the capacity you desire. This may involve demonstration of    your art at the Foothills Arts Council facility (129 Church St., Elkin), coordination of workshops, curation of exhibits, community outreach, local artist enrollment, etc. We would   also like to have one F.A.I.R. representative at each FAC board meeting.

If accepted, what is in it for me?
With F.A.I.R., we offer a place to hang your hat as an artist. Through demonstration, workshops and outreach, there will be ample opportunity for marketing and exposure of each resident's work within the Elkin community and surrounding areas. We also offer a permanent gallery space in which to showcase and sell your work (space is somewhat limited, but we will do our best accommodate members).  We would like you to be involved in the areas you are most interested, and will provide a facility through which to work.

What is the duration of the residency?
To be determined by the FAC Board of Directors and the F.A.I.R. committee.

Is this a paid residency?
Not yet, but we hope to apply for future community and education grants. Workshops will be offered for a fee and a percentage will be given to the resident.

How does this residency extend into the community?

Resident artists will be able to share demonstrations, lectures and hand on workshops here at the Foothills Arts Council as well as in other community facilities, to be determined by the resident.
