Support the Arts

November, 2018

Members and friends,

It's been an exciting year for the Arts in our community! Thanks to your support the FAC was again able to maintain and expand upon our offerings. Over the past year we welcomed the Yadkin Valley Fiber Center and The Martha Bassett Show as our newest affiliates and celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Foothills Theatre. The opening of the Reeves Theater welcomed new collaborative opportunities acting as a venue for the Elkin Roots Festival and the Music Maker Relief Foundation concert series. Thanks to generous contributions from G&B Energy and Explore Elkin we also amped up our free community entertainment through a new and highly popular outdoor movie series.

So, what’s next?

As part of our community’s new master plan, we’re currently in the process of planning and negotiations for the development of a school of craft, arts incubator, and visual and performing arts center. Though we can’t yet make a formal announcement as to the location, we can describe the amenities and offerings the facility would afford.

The school of craft would offer workshops in textiles, books, paper, clay, printmaking, photography, glass, metals, and wood. Workshops would be taught by in-house and nationally accredited instructors bringing students and teachers to our area from across the country. Work created on site would then be displayed and sold through a large, bright, and beautiful new craft gallery.

The arts incubator would offer studio and exhibition space to local and visiting residency artists. Here artists would learn the necessary time management, business management, and marketing skills needed to sustain successful careers in the arts and be responsible for every aspect of exhibition from creation to marketing and display.

The performing arts center would not only act as a much-needed home for the Foothills Theatre, but also provide a venue for new music, dance, and touring theater company performances, as well as classroom space for music, dance, and drama instruction.

How can I help?

Your increased support acts as a vote in support of the project and the added tourism, jobs, and educational opportunities it would mean for our community. As you consider your annual, semi-annual, quarterly or monthly level of support, please reflect upon the multitude of benefits this project would bring to our community in the near future and for years to come.

Thanks very much for your continued support of the Foothills Arts Council!
